Global Mean Annual Precipitation ERA5
Interactive map with scientific data analysis, point lookup, and detailed environmental information
Map Information
This raster represents the spatial distribution of mean annual precipitation across the globe, expressed in millimeters per year (mm/year), averaged over the period 2020 through 2024. The dataset was derived from the ERA5 reanalysis provided by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), using monthly averaged total precipitation fields. Monthly precipitation values were converted from meters to millimeters and aggregated to annual totals for each year. The final raster was produced by averaging the annual precipitation totals across the five-year period to generate a climatological representation of global precipitation patterns. The raster is provided in geographic coordinates (WGS84) and includes both a native-resolution (~0.25°) version and a resampled ~1 km nominal grid for integration with higher-resolution environmental datasets.

Key characteristics:
Units: millimeters per year (mm/year)
Temporal coverage: 2020–2024 (5-year mean)
Spatial resolution:
Native: ~ 0.25° (~27 km)
Resampled: ~1 km (nominal, interpolated)
Coverage: Global (land and ocean)
Data source: ERA5 reanalysis (ECMWF)
Intended use:
Climate and environmental analysis
Corrosion modeling (e.g., ISO 9223 applications)
Hydrological and atmospheric studies
Integration with global raster modeling frameworks
Important note: The 1 km raster is a resampled representation of the underlying ERA5 data and does not introduce new fine-scale precipitation variability. It is intended for spatial alignment and modeling compatibility rather than true high-resolution climate representation.
Data Distribution Analysis
These histograms show the distribution of pixel values across the entire raster dataset, helping you understand the range and frequency of different measurements.
